Ms Wendy’s Patient

Athris Physio (Jalan Bakar Arang)

I was diagnosed with osteosarcoma of the left femur in 2010. Limb salvage surgery was performed by UMSC Professor Dr. Vivek in September 2010 to remove the tumor. Since 2025, which is 15 years post-surgery, the plastic component of my implant has started loosening, causing increasing pain around my left knee. My surgeon has advised a revision surgery to replace both the plastic and tibial components, which is planned for June 2026. In preparation for this surgery, I was advised to strengthen my quadriceps muscles.

I sought rehabilitation to reduce knee pain and improve lower limb strength. Upon my initial assessment with my physiotherapist, Ms. Wendy, my gait pattern was poor, requiring increased effort to lift my left leg. My affected leg felt heavy, my balance was reduced, and I was placing excessive load on my unaffected leg, which sometimes causing pain also.

After several physiotherapy sessions, I have experienced significant improvement. My gait pattern has improved, knee pain has reduced, and strength in my left knee has increased noticeably. These improvements have made my daily activities much easier, especially at work where I need to walk frequently and climb stairs. I can now go up and down stairs more easily and at a faster pace.
